Position Description

1 x CARPENTER/JOINER

All aspects of the trade including, but not limited general maintenance, installing cupboards, wall-panelling etc for the fit-out of new/existing dwellings such as door frames, scaffolding and formwork constructions. Undertake all aspects of the Carpentry trade, including reactive and planned maintenance, inspect and arrange the inspection, maintenance and repair of tools.


Skills

  1. Excellent technical trade skills from troubleshooting, problem-solving and analytical skills that use logic, math and verbal reasoning are essential.
  2. Effective time, resource (materials) management.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and literacy skills.
  4. Proficient level of computer literacy – MS Word/excel/Outlook would be advantageous

Knowledge/ Experience

  1. Trades Certificate from NATTB or similar is essential. Only candidates with NATTB Trade Testing Certificates, Trades Certificate or APTC Certificate II should apply.
  2. Minimum 2-3 years’ work experience
  3. Occupational Health and Safety certification
  4. PNG and relevant international building codes and standards
  5. Interpreting building drawings, plans, diagrams as per job/task/project specifications.
  6. Building repairs and maintenance assessments and report writing
  7. Soft-skill (time management, customer, sales, team, problem resolution) certification would be advantageous.
  8. Responsive & preventative maintenance schedule management
  9. Schematic diagrams, plans would be advantageous but not essential
  10. Effective use and care of all tools of the trade, equipment, specialized tools, parts, fixtures and fittings and materials

Additional Requirements

  • In excellent physical health. Employment will be subject to passing a medical assessment.
  • Police clearance certificate required.
  • Class 1 or Class 6 Driver’s licence would be advantageous

Work Environment

  • Work at heights, in confined spaces, using ladders, climb, kneel and lay flat on back or on stomach. Display strong eye-hand coordination with the physical ability to lift heavy objects, crawl, crouch, kneel, bend, stand/on your feet for long periods of time. Dealing with hazardous objects and in hazardous areas.
